Early Life of Jerry Bruckheimer

Jerry’s birth name is Jerome Leon Bruckheimer. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, on September 21, 1943. Jerry was raised in a Jewish household and his parents were German immigrants.

Jerry graduated from high school at the age of 17 years in 1961. From there, he joined the University of Arizona where he graduated with a degree in psychology. It was during this period that he developed a love for film and photography.

After graduating, he found advertising work. He worked in New York City and Detroit working on ads for Pontiac GTO. He then began producing commercials for reputable brands, such as Pepsi.

Jerry Bruckheimer’s Career

Jerry officially started his career in the 1970s as a film producer. He started with producing films such as My Lovely, Farewell, and March or Die. In the 80s and 90s, Jerry developed a bond with Paramount Studios and he worked hand in hand with producer Don Simpson.

The two extended their friendship and started their business with projects such as Flashdance that went on to gross $95 million at the box office. Jerry went on to triple the numbers with blockbusters Top Gun and Beverly Hills Cop in the 80s.

The two friends then signed a $300 million five-year contract with Paramount in 1990. However, the deal broke apart after an underperformance in the Days of Thunder. Sadly, Dan Simpson died in 1996 and Jerry was left to battle the waves.

Over the next years, Jerry worked on different films, such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Armageddon, Black Hawk Down, etc that ended up performing very well. Jerry then took up TV production and he created police dramas such as Crime Scene Investigation.
