What Is the Difference Between Existentialism vs Absurdism?

There are two terms- Existentialism and Absurdism and both these words mean “the way of thinking”. It means that the way we think about our lives can be termed as Absurdism or Existentialism. Both these terms have a very deep and philosophical meaning, and that is what we are going to discuss in this article.

What Is the Meaning Of Existentialism?

Existentialism is a thought that states that there is no fixed meaning of life. This concept says that every human has the freedom to give purpose to their lives and other will not tell them what to do and what not to do.

This means that if we are born as a human, then it is up to us what purpose and meaning we want to give to our lives. There is no one who can enforce their own thoughts when it’s our life.

What Is the Meaning Of Absurdism?

Absurdism is another though that says that there does not even exist any clear meaning of life in this world. It means that if we as a human try to find the purpose of life, it’s a complete waste of time because the world does not have any meaning or purpose of human life.

Absurdism Vs. Existentialism

Absurdism Vs. Existentialism is a very interesting concept and in this section we will explain to you how both of them differ so much:

1. Meaning

Existentialism says that we should find the purpose of our lives through our actions and Absurdism says that doing so is totally stupid and pointless.

2. Historical Philosophers

Jean-Paul Sartre is one such historical philosopher who supported Existentialism and Albert Camus was the person who supported Absurdism.

3. Outlook

Existentialism encourages people to go out and find the purpose of their lives. It encourages humans to do positive actions and make the world better by finding a good purpose of their lives and fulfill that purpose.

Absurdism encourages people to live freely and go with the flow of life. Let things happen the way they are and humans should not interfere in what is happening.

4. Approach

Existentialism tells people to shape their own lives by doing what should be needed. It makes humans more proactive because instead of letting things happen, it tells humans to do actions.

Absurdism tells humans to accept the way the world is. Absurdism also says that we should accept the nature, environment, this planet, and the universe the way it is and the way it works. We should not interfere.

Conclusion

We think that Absurdism is a very intelligent way of escaping from the hurdles of life and doing hard work. Instead of doing hard work, Absurdism teaches us to accept the flow of time and nature and just sit back and relax. This makes humans lazy and diverts them from the actual reason why they were born as a human.

Existentialism makes people more inclined towards hard work and shape their own lives. If a human is born poor, Existentialism tells him to work hard and eradicate their poverty, while Absurdism tells that if you are born poor, let it be. Live the way you were born and live the life that comes to you automatically, which we think is a complete bullshit.
